One
out of 30 women in urban India runs the risk of
developing breast cancer. One out of 30.
This fact has been the sole driving force –
over the last five years – behind our campaign
for better breast health. Under the initiative
‘Fashion Joins Hands Against Breast Cancer’,
ELLE works along with the fashion fraternity to
raise funds and awareness. With our specially
designed Carnival for a Cause’ events, we
have raised (in the last two years alone) over
Rs 70 lakh for the Women’s Cancer Initiative,
Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
In 2008, we kick-start
our campaign this month. For two very simple
reasons: We believe that the issue of breast cancer
should not be discussed only in October –
and forgotten by November. It’s a cause
that affects the entire family and should be top
of mind all year long. Secondly,
and more importantly, we chose February –
traditionally a month of love – to remind
you to love yourself. With a simple 15-minute
self-examination, you can save a life. Yours. |

| This
month’s issue is a really special
one for another reason. We bring you a line-up
of young designers who are absolutely the
labels to watch out for. Young, super-talented
and original,
they will determine the future of fashion.
My prediction is that innovation will be
key. Fashion
will be less about following the pack and
more about finding your flair.
The trends in beauty are already
heading that way. We list the 20 best ways
to have fun while looking good.
From green tea products to bright, bold
eyes – you choose what works for you.
The month also heralds the end of
winter and starts the move towards spring’s
silhouettes. Colour rules, but shape starts
to play an important role again. But there
is an easier way to be chic. A Carnival
for a Cause is coming to a city near you.
Buy your tickets and show that you care.
