One
out of 30 women in urban India runs the risk of
developing breast cancer. One out of 30. This fact
has been the sole driving force – over the
last five years – behind our campaign for
better breast health. Under the initiative ‘Fashion
Joins Hands Against Breast Cancer’, ELLE works
along with the fashion fraternity to raise funds
and awareness. With our specially designed ‘Carnival
for a Cause’ events, we have raised (in the
last two years alone) over Rs 70 lakh for the Women’s
Cancer Initiative, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
In
2008, we kick-start our campaign this month. For
two very simple reasons: We believe that the issue
of breast cancer should not be discussed only
in October – and forgotten by November.
It’s a cause that affects the entire family
and should be top of mind all year long. Secondly,
and more importantly, we chose February –
traditionally a month of love – to remind
you to love yourself.
