Who conquered the Persian Empire and what did it accomplish?

Alexander the great. After his death it was divided up amongst his generals into the Hellenistic Kingdoms (Macedonia, Egypt, Syria etc).

These kingdoms, apart from fighting amongst each other, introduced a veneer of Greek civilisation in northeast Africa, eastern Europe and the Middle East for a few hundred years.
