What happen when water is polluted?

If you pollute water fish won't be able to breath and die, which could result in even more pollution and very little fish. (because they all died) So the animals that eat fish will have to go some where else. So most of the predators will leave and the other animals will over populate and then most of them will die because of no food and by catching diseases.
