What Roman at the cross acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God?

Because he is specifically called a centurion, he was more likely a higher rankiong official in the Roman army, and had command of a group of 100 soldiers. He is also mentioned in Matthew 27:54 - When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son[e] of God!" , Luke 23:47 - The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man.", and indirectly in John 19:34-35 34Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true.
