To defend itself, a raccoon lowers it's head to the ground and hunches it's back to the air and hisses. either that or it stands up on it's hind legs and snarls to make itself look big. Mothers will fight with the enemy until her babies are safe. when they are, she just walks away! but trust me, you do not want to get into a fight with a raccoon. you'll surely loose!

Indeed, few animals will willingly tangle with a raccoon. The risk of injury is to great.
