In 1791, Saint-Domingue (now Haiti) had a substantial population of white people primarily consisting of plantation owners and their families. Estimates suggest that there were about 30,000 to 40,000 white residents in the colony at that time. This figure included both the wealthy plantation owners and poorer whites, known as "petits blancs." The population dynamics were significantly impacted by the Haitian Revolution that began in the same year.
