When did the Chinese isolate themselves?

The Chinese policy of isolationism, known as the Ming dynasty's maritime prohibition, began in the early 15th century under the rule of Emperor Yongle. This policy was implemented to restrict foreign trade and influence, particularly from European powers. The isolationist stance continued until the mid-19th century when the Opium Wars forced China to open its borders to foreign trade.
