Just hours after Ronald Reagan was sworn in, 52 Americans who were held as hostages in Iran were released. This lead to an allegation that a conspiracy with Iran was involved, however twelve years later the allegation was concluded to lack supporting documents. This is also commonly referred to as the October Surprise conspiracy theory.
