In 1993, the Turkish lira experienced significant inflation, and its value was quite low compared to previous years. The exchange rate fluctuated, but it was approximately 1,200 lira to 1 US dollar by the end of that year. This period marked the beginning of a series of monetary reforms that eventually led to the introduction of the New Turkish Lira in 2005, which removed six zeros from the old currency.
