Is dropbox illegal

I guess it depends on the jurisdiction you are using the service from. In some countries it might be illegal. Also, bear in mind, that the the drop box servers are located in the USA, so it won't take long for the feds to get hold of your data. Currently they are not able to, but sure there will be a law requiring drop box to provide a backdoor to your data.
