If you're just swimming for fun or trying to see who can hold your breath the longest with your friends, breathe in as much air as you can and then slowly let it out as you go. If you swim competitively, it really depends. I've found when I sprint in freestyle I can do a 25 without breathing if I tildmy head all the way down, cup my hands, and charge forward as fast as I can, although I don't think you're supposed to have your head that low... But it works!
It veries from person to person!!!!! Most adults can hold their breath for about 45 seconds.
Although, some people such as Navy Seals are trained to hold their breath underwater for an extended period of time, or in other Words several minutes.
