Mount Karthala is located on the island of Grande Comore, which is part of the Comoros archipelago in the Indian ocean. It is an active volcano and is the highest point in the Comoros, rising to about 2,361 meters (7,746 feet) above sea level. The mountain is known for its large caldera and frequent volcanic activity.
