What does botched mean?

If one is using the Word "botch" as a verb it would mean that a task is carried out badly and or carelessly. For an example "the young boy made a botched attempt to ride his bike down the hill." However, if one is trying to use the Word as a noun it would mean badly carried out task as well as action.
