The Third Estate, comprising commoners, was dissatisfied with life under the Old Regime due to social inequality, heavy taxation, and lack of political power. While they bore the burden of taxes and were subject to feudal obligations, the privileged First and Second Estates (clergy and nobility) enjoyed numerous exemptions and privileges. Additionally, the Third Estate had little representation in governance, leading to feelings of frustration and resentment that ultimately fueled the desire for change during the French Revolution.
