Why are long legs better on girls?

Long legs are sexy, and I can think of two reasons why:
1) Because it is a good quality, perhaps because you can run better with them or are taller and stronger with long legs, and only the women with those long legs succeeded in having children and stuff (according to Darwin's theory)
2) Because it's fashion.
