Who is Keith O'Brien of The Mentalist?

Most people think that Keith O'Brien was somehow related to the production of The Mentalist. It could also be a family member of someone who works on the show. I did find an Australian obituary for a Keith O'Brien that passed away in October 2011. If this is the correct man, it may be a friend or family member of Simon Baker since he is also from Australia.
