I do believe that advertisement create unnecessary needs.

For one thing, advertising in general plays with our emotions. Have you noticed how that affects our perceptions...alot?

Take, for example, beauty products. You don't NEED them in order to live and survive; I mean, it's not a necessity to anyone's lives. However, there are advertisements that IMPLY that wearing lipstick, eyeliner, facial powder, etc. should be an everyday ordinary thing that women (and maybe some men) need to do. No.. this isn't true. If you're those kinds of person that has issues with self consciousness and need those beauty products, then you're the victim for these advertisements. Otherwise, you don't really need it.

Advertising just give off that perception that you can "buy" happiness, and that's something we don't need....(especially when we're broke!)

But that's a downfall about advertising, that it creates an image where happiness can be bought. I'm pretty sure that advertising has brought many success among the business corporations, and that denotes an economy's growth. People are buying, and frankly, people buy based on emotions.. " [ I feel that] I NEED THIS!" Hope this helps. By the ways, I have a presentation for this argument. Nice way to boost up my energy!
