Why did Assassins cut off their left ring finger?

So that their hidden blade can come out, even when the have their hand is ballled into a fist. it kind of makes sense in an abstract way. also its pretty badass ---- This may be true to a degree, but the real answer is that the Assassins did not have time for personal relationships, as their duties left them no time. Also their "religion" did no believe in relationships.
