Is .05 greater than .035

To compare decimals ; method

0.05 & 0.035

Bring both decimals to the same number of decimal places by inserting suffix zeroes.

Hence 0.050 & 0.035 ( Each is now 3 d.p.).

Drop the decimal point

0050 & 0035

Drop the prefix zeroes 50 & 35

I think you will agree with me than 35 < 50 .

Hence it follows that 0.035 < 0.05

NB This method is good for comparing all decimals.
