How did Norman bridwell start writing?

Norman Bridwell started writing Children's Books after an editor suggested he try his hand at illustrating and writing for kids. His first book, "Clifford the Big Red Dog," was inspired by a story he had told his wife about a dog that grew enormous from love. Bridwell's wife encouraged him to turn the story into a book, which eventually led to his successful career as a children's author.
