Can you kiss a girl on the neck without giving her a hickey?

Hickeys are caused by guys going crazy with sucking the neck skin until blood comes to the surface. I am fairly sure that she will be more happy with very light kisses and licks on the neck more or less between her ear and shoulder - they do not cause embarrassing hickies, either.
