The origin of the Word blood is a very old one. Stemming from Proto-Indo European Bhel (To thrive, bloom), it decended to Proto Germanic: blodam. This eventually came blod in Old English, and finally blood today. The Words bless, and bleed also stem from the same Proto-germanic phrase too.
