Do mermaids wear shirts

Given that they are imaginary, they can wear whatever they want. Hans Christian Andersen (in his story "The Little Sea-Maid") said they wore eight oyster shells clipped to their tails as ornamentation once they were 15 and old enough to rise up to the surface of the ocean.

Does that mean they wear nothing too?? ;)
