Philip II of Macedon was succeeded by his son, Alexander the great. Upon Philip's assassination in 336 BC, Alexander ascended to the throne at the age of 20. He went on to create one of the largest empires in history, stretching from Greece to Egypt and into the Indian subcontinent. Alexander is renowned for his military conquests and his role in spreading Greek culture across the regions he conquered.
