What happened to Bando in Elfen Lied?

Answer:
In the anime Lucy let him go since she was planning on dying. But in the manga Bando is killed by Lucy trying to save Mayu. It's really sad because I liked him a lot!!! *sobs*jk actually he doesn't die.
