Thoracoscopy (thoraco = thorax [chest] + scop = look + y = procedure) is the internal examination of the chest performed under general or sedation with local anesthetic. The instrument (thoracoscope) includes a light source, viewing lens and areas for inclusion of specialized instruments for tissue removal or manipulation.
