What is the plot of this short story of diamond necklace?

'The Necklace' is a short story written by French author Guy de Maupassant. It tells the story of an ambitious woman married to a poor man that dreams about the lifestyle of rich people. After receiving an invitation to a fancy party, she borrows an expensive necklace from a friend, just to discover afterwards with Horror that she had lost it. In order to buy a new one to replace the lost one, she incurs in terrible debt that ruins her life. Years after she has an encounter with that friend of hers. Her friend, still unaware of the sad story she had been involved because of her necklace, confesses her that necklace she lent her years ago was just an imitation and had little to no value.
