Does pollution cause animal extinction

Pollution is killing animals because of many things. One example is litter - small animals like door mice could get trapped in an empty packet of crisps an animal my cut themselves on some broken glass - that sort of thing. Another way is by chucking litter into a lake or pond - animals such as swans could choke on some litter!
