The only plant that Monarchs eat are milkweeds. There are several varieties of milkweed but the Monarch will only lay its eggs on these plants. Then the caterpillar eats the leaves before spinning a chrysalis and later turning into a butterfly. We have become part of the Monarch Waystation program which helps Monarchs since their habitats are decreasing with more and more development. Here's an article about it:
