Do cats have a mating call?

Yes, they wail, also known as a caterwaul. If you are not familiar with their mating sounds, you may think there are children outside playing. The pitch of their mating calls is roughly in the alto singing range.

You can look up "cat mating call" and "caterwauling" on YouTube to get an idea of the sounds involved. It seems that no two cats do this exactly alike. It also seems from the videos that it is the males that make the repetitive noises while the females make the loud growling sounds.
