Why were Marco polo and rustichello in prison?

Marco Polo and Rustichello da Pisa were imprisoned during a conflict between Venice and Genoa in the late 13th century. Marco Polo, a Venetian merchant, was captured during a naval battle, while Rustichello, a romance writer from Genoa, was imprisoned alongside him. In prison, Polo recounted his travels to Rustichello, who helped him document his adventures, leading to the creation of "The Travels of Marco Polo." Their collaboration turned Polo's experiences into one of the most famous travel narratives of the Middle Ages.
