When John Langton was not allowed back into England, the Archbishop of Canterbury was Stephen Langton himself. He served as Archbishop from 1207 until his death in 1228 and played a significant role in the events leading up to the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215. His tenure was marked by conflict with King John, who opposed Langton's appointment.
