What is the value of a 50-pound gold bar?

Gold is priced by the ounce. A 50 pound block would be 600 ounces and would cost 600 times the one ounce price. (The reason it's 600 oz. is because gold -- and all precious metals -- are measured in Troy ounces, which are twelve to the pound.)
