we had an infestation of two striped walking sticks amongst some azaleas across the front of our house. they were causing almost complete defoliation. we could not find the culprit, until we went out at night with a flashlight and found thousands hanging from the leaves that were left. interestingly enough we did not find any on the many other azalea beds around our house. not knowing what to do, we decided to try Bengal roach spray, as it is usually very effective on any insect. within minutes, they were falling off of the leaves, and died soon after. that was last year. just this evening we saw our first walking stick of the season and we sprayed again. several pairs (about 12 or so) started falling out of the azaleas dying. we had not noticed any defoliation as of yet. i hope this is the last of those destructive insects.
