Who is on trial for rape in To Kill a Mockingbird?

Tom Robinson, a black man, is on trial for rape. Mayella Ewell, a white woman, accused Tom of raping her. Ultimately, Tom Robinson is found guilty of rape, even though he did not actually rape her.
