To properly transplant a fig tree for successful growth, choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and deep enough to accommodate the roots. Carefully remove the tree from its current location, keeping the root ball intact. Place the tree in the new hole, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. Mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture. Water regularly and monitor for signs of stress.
