Network Technician - Wireline

Responsibilities:

The Network Technician will perform installations, general/preventive maintenance, service activation/de-activations, and testing/trouble-shooting associated with NTELOS transport infrastructure, switching infrastructure, and IP/Data networks, and perform "on call" duties as required. Will interact with customers, service technicians, technical support personnel, and other telecom professionals.

Responsibilities also include, but are not limited to:

Operating, maintaining, upgrading, and repairing:

    • multiple market transport network (Optical networks for local distribution, customer access and long haul network appearance, i.e. Cisco, BTI and similar);

    • multiple market switched network (5E switch and similar), to include knowledge of applicable industry standards;

    • multiple market equipment associated with the access networks (Lucent, Adtran, CISCO and similar);

    • multiple market equipment associated with the METRO Ethernet, IP and Data networks (CISCO and similar);

  • Testing and accepting all new Central Office network installations;

  • Completing other duties as assigned.

Skills and Essential Elements:

Qualified candidates will possess the following:

  • Stellar interpersonal skills in order to interact with external customers and other key technical contacts, both inside and outside of company, in a professional manner;

  • Demonstrated safe/responsible work habits to ensure proper vehicle operation and a safe workplace environment;

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record;

  • Proficiency in using electronic test equipment;

  • Ability to diagnose, locate and clear trouble conditions using I/O terminals and external test equipment;

  • Familiar with computer/laptop to include proficiency in Excel, MS Word. Procomm, etc

  • Ability to read and understand procedure manuals;

  • Ability to understand theory of:

    • AC/DC power;

    • Analog/digital transmission and technology;

    • IP based Data networking

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment;

  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, decision-making and written/verbal communications skills;

  • Ability to hold/maintain valid driver's license and good driving record.
