Why are Filipinos so obsessed with being white?

If you have white skin in the Philippines, you will be considered as attractive. Unfair, I know, but this type of thinking goes way back. During the Spanish era, Filipinos were being put down for their skin color, and generally, it affected the way of thinking right now. Also, it's typical, because atleast 3/4 of the country's population is brown-skinned, and everyone wants to have what they can't have. Why do you think white people are obsessed with spray tans? Kind of like that.
