What happened to Burns from Mash?

During the 5th season of the CBS television series M*A*S*H (1972-83), Margaret gets married and Frank Burns (played by Larry Linville) loses his mind. He is AWOL from camp and running amuck in Seoul. The army MPs finally contain him and the powers that be ship him back to the States and give him a responsible position in a VA hospital.
