Domesticated plants and animals are those plants and animals that have been either bred or trained or both so that they can be kept indoors and coexist in same living area as people and thrive.
Houseplants are domesticated. Although many houseplants are naturally small enough to be kept indoors, the size of some is controlled by the pot in which they are grown. A Banzai tree is a tree, naturally large, that has been "trained" to maintain a size small enough to be kept indoors.
Dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils, various bird, reptiles and other naturally wild animals have been bred and or trained to live or be cared for as pets. Many other animals do not have the temperament to be domesticated. They are considered dangerous and it is illegal in many place to have animals such as wolves, foxes, tigers and lions as pets.
Once domesticated, such animals become dependent on people for their care and nourishment. Such animals can no longer survive if released to the wild.
