You're talking about a common garden spider. Banana Spiders, also called Brazilian wandering spiders, are hunters that do not spin webs. Also, they are the MOST venomous spider in the world. It's even in the Guinness Book of World Records as such. Answer by GinezumiAccording to my Master Naturalist training, it also is thought that the pattern alerts birds to the presence of the spider's web. The pattern keeps birds from flying through and therefore keeps the spider from losing food while constantly mending bird damaged-webs.
