The first American to receive worldwide acclaim is often considered to be Benjamin Franklin. He gained international recognition in the 18th century for his contributions to science, particularly with his experiments in electricity, as well as for his diplomatic efforts in securing support for the American Revolution from France. Franklin's writings, including his famous Poor Richard's Almanack, also contributed to his fame and influence beyond the United States.
