The Roman's adopted many Greek habits and ideas (such as their religion - Roman/Greek religion identical, just different names) for many reasons, but especially because the Greeks were seen as be cultured and civilized, and adoption of Greek customs was to impart this same sense of culture and civilization to the "rough" Roman state. Not to mention that it was easier than making up their own!
