For the most part they are solitary. They do however congregate in areas where food (seals and whale carcasses especially) is plentiful. They ofcourse also come in contact for mating though this has never been observed or recorded by humans. During the times they are in close contact with one another they have been observed "getting along" with one another though there is a feeding hierarchy from biggest to smallest and some specimens exhibit wounds that could only be from other white sharks.
