Why did Victor and Henry have to postpone their trip home from Ingolstadt in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein?

Henry's father, a merchant and trader, believes that natural philosophy (aka physical science) is a bunch of bologna, and is entirely pointless. Therefore, he forbids Henry to accompany Victor to Ingolstadt.
