The white tailed deer [Odocoileus virginianus] is infamous for eating the tops off of flowers. It will move through a flower bed and behead the most beautiful flowers from plants. Twenty-sixth U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt [October 27, 1858--January 6, 1919] noted that many deer stops and gathering points were located in the most scenic spots of the animal's range. So deer well may make discriminating choices in food and location on the basis of aesthetic and sensory qualities.
