How an alternator convert mechanical energy to electrical energy?

When the batter supplies 12volts of electricity to thw atarting motor and the motor then bwgins to spin which eventually activate the alternator and other appliance on the engine all of this is mechanical so then the alternator will convert this energy when its shaft spins into electrical engery thus supplying energy to other parts of the vehicle. I'm a current student in automotive so if there is any problem with my answer please help I would be very greateful
