Well, there are lots and lots of both animals and insects living in the African forests. Some of them are:

• Mandrills
• Scaly-tailed squirrels
• Hippos
• Monkeys
• Duikers
• Congo Peafowl
• African gray Parrots
• Alligators
• Agouties (short-tailed rodent)
• Salamanders
• Frogs & Toads
• The anaconda
• Aye-aye (ape-like creature from Madascar mainly)
• Capybara (large rodent)
• Boa Constrictor

Well, that was some animals I remembered. I am not really big on insects so I'll let someone else add that to my answer.
