What is a turbine trip?

A turbine trip is an automatic shutdoen to protect the wquipment from over-speed damage. It is similar to blowing a fuse on an electrical system die to a short circuit.

Any device which will instantly shut down the turbine. There are high vibration trips, overspeed trips, high bearing temperature trips, low lube oil pressure trips, eccentricity trips, axial position trips, and for generating units: out of phase trips, low voltage trips, high voltage trips, reverse power trips, power to ground trips, and a few others.
